This created a market and Royal Canadian Mint show the opportunity and released the coin expansion program. The first phase was released in 1982, with the introduction of the ¼ oz and 1/10 oz coins, and the second with the ½ oz in 1986. In 2003 Susanna Blunt portrayed Queen Elizabeth II without the crown on her head. The first portrayal of Queen Elizabeth was designed by Walter Ott.
