  • The aqua regia procedure is preferred for modest amounts of gold. Nitric acid and hydrochloric acid are combined to treat the ore or concentrate, dissolving the gold. The gold is then precipitated out of the solution using a reducing agent such as sodium metabisulfite. To create bars or coins, the gold powder is next melted.   • It is known that the Miller method can purify gold to 99.95%. Francis Bowyer Miller, the method’s creator, is credited with giving it its name. Unrefined gold is first melted when using the Miller method. To separate the valuable metal from contaminants when it is at the melting point, this technique uses gaseous chlorine. It is a quick and easy method of obtaining gold.

Gold Smelting and Melting: Producing Dore Gold Bars

The total process of refining gold must include the production of dore gold bars through melting and smelting. The gold-bearing substance is broken down by heat and a chemical-reducing agent during the smelting process, yielding pure gold. The liquid, pure gold can then be poured into moulds during melting, where it will subsequently solidify into bars.

Get a furnace that can reach beyond 1900°F, which is the melting point of gold, as that is what you’ll need to start. The ideal would be a furnace or kiln made specifically for melting precious metals. The additional safety equipment you’ll need includes a respirator, gloves, and an apron that can withstand heat.
